Guidelines For An Accurate TRT Blood Test – Venous Draw
Blood Test 2 and your follow-up blood tests whilst on your TRT programme are carried out via a venous draw. This will take place at a local clinic or via home visit from a nurse.
Important note: Blood tests should ideally be performed between between 8am and 11am when you are not receiving TRT treatment.
Please follow all instructions you receive from your provider. In addition, to ensure accurate and reliable test results, please follow these guidelines:
- Avoid sexual activity, ejaculation, and intense exercise (such as cycling) for at least 48 hours before your test. These activities can temporarily elevate your PSA (prostate-specific antigen) levels, leading to inaccurate results.
- Stay well-hydrated: Drink plenty of water before your blood test to ensure a smoother blood draw. Aim for at least 500ml to 1 litre of water in the hours leading up to your appointment. Dehydration can make sample collection more difficult.
Please note: If a blood test fails, we will provide a free replacement once. Any further retesting will require the purchase of both the test and a clinic visit.
Timing of Follow-Up Blood Tests While On TRT
Ideally, follow-up tests should be conducted during the "trough" of your testosterone levels—just before your next testosterone injection. Testing at other times may result in artificially high testosterone or oestrogen readings.
