Testosterone Unit Conversion: A Handy Guide
Our testosterone unit conversion tool is designed to be a handy resource for TRT patients who are navigating between SI (International System of Units) and conventional units.
Please note that it is not designed to be a substitute for professional medical advice. Please ensure you consult your TRT practitioner if you have any concerns about your dosage or any other matters relating to your treatment.
Understanding Testosterone Unit Measurements
Some countries, including the UK, use System International (SI) units, which measure testosterone as nmol/L (nanomoles per litre). In contrast, countries including the USA, use conventional units, which measure testosterone as ng/dL (nanograms per decilitre).
This can cause confusion if referring to information on testosterone from a different country to that in which you are based. To resolve this issue, refer to our conversion tool below. This will allow you to effortlessly convert, for example, US conventional units to British SI units.
Is One Unit of Measurement Better?
Both units are equally valid; the key is understanding the numbers in the context of clinical significance. Our converter ensures you can easily switch between systems without confusion.
Key Measurements When Testing For Low Testosterone
When discussing testosterone deficiency and treatment, it’s essential to understand what is being measured and how. Here are some important benchmarks:
Total Testosterone
This is measured in the morning for men with an intact pituitary gland.
Levels above 500 ng/dL (17.3358 nmol/L) are considered optimal.
Free Testosterone
Levels above 0.35 nmol/L are also considered within the optimal range.
The Bigger Picture
It’s important to put your testosterone levels into context rather than simply looking at rigid cut-off values. Our experienced doctors at Urban TRT will be able to discuss your results with you and help you decide on the best course of treatment where needed.
